Affordability Exemption

What is an Affordability Exemption?

Affordability Exemptions are a type of exemption that someone can claim to qualify for Catastrophic Coverage, along with hardship exemptions. A waiver is required when applying for Catastrophic Coverage for people age 30 and older for whom coverage is not affordable.

You may qualify for an affordability exemption if the lowest-priced coverage, whether through a marketplace or job-based plan, would cost more than 8.09% of your household income.
