Alimony

What is Alimony?

Alimony is a form of financial support you might receive from a partner you used to live with or an ex-partner. This usually happens when you go through a divorce or separation, and it’s written down in an official agreement or ordered by a court. If the agreement or order specifies that the payments are for child support or as a non-taxable property settlement, they’re not considered alimony.
